Like many of you, I watched a shit ton of television this year. Here are some of my favorites to close out the year. No, I haven’t started Succession. You enjoy yourself though!

Last Chance U: Basketball
Easily the best season they’ve done since the original first two seasons focusing on football programs. Got sucked in immediately by this coaching staff and the young men persevering towards their dreams. Can’t wait for another season with Coach Mosley and Coach Ken.

Ted Lasso – Season 2
This latest season continues the adult Paddington vibes on the way to becoming one of the best written shows of the year. The episode where Coach Beard has his own personal After Hours is my favorite episode of the show thus far. Coach Beard gasping at Roy Kent saying “You had me at coach.” is something I think about each week. Looking forward to how things close out next season.

The History of the Atlanta Falcons
Having loved Secret Base’s previous The History of the Seattle Mariners, Jon Bois and company returned with another banger. Even though I’m not as plugged into football as other sports, it was easy to get sucked into the history of a team and fandom whose misery you have to view as comedic to keep from crying. My buddy Huston, a lifelong Falcons fan, still hasn’t had the strength to watch this yet. I don’t blame him, he’s lived it. These filmmakers are the future of sports documentaries.

Curb Your Enthusiasm – Season 11
This show just never misses a beat. Larry going back to his food while somebody is getting treatment for a heart attack is the realest shit I’ve ever seen. The episode where Larry spills coffee on a klansmen’s robe and is then trying to get it dry-cleaned is proof that this show is simply just the best storytelling there is around these days.

MacGruber
Just like how some consider Twin Peaks: The Return to be a movie, I understand the belief that the MacGruber series is a movie. I truly do. The reason I do not have this series on my list of favorite films this year is because it simply would not be fair to the other films released this year. I wouldn’t even have a list because it would just be MacGruber. MacGruber is still the hardest I’ve ever laughed in a theater, and it was my favorite film of the 2010s. I’m unbelievably happy to announce that the series is everything I could have wanted and more. This series is an absolute miracle. Everybody came back plus some awesome additions to the cast and everybody is bringing their A-game. I was worried it would be neutered or stretched too thin as a series but it literally just plays like a 4 hour MacGruber film which is all I’ve ever wanted. I haven’t laughed this hard since I saw the film in theaters over a decade ago. Me and my buddy Huston watched it all in one sitting, and we’re going to rewatch it multiple times to come just like we’ve done with the film. I nearly gave myself a chest-cold with how hard I was laughing. The gag of MacGruber immediately crashing a motorbike and then limping/waddling off an yelling “FUCK YOU” back at the person he stole the bike from is one of the single funniest things I’ve ever seen. This show is personally one of the best things to ever happen to me. I’m not being hyperbolic. Thank you, Will Forte, Jorma Taccone, John Solomon and company for making a sequel I’d never thought I’d get to see and making it as perfect as it is.
